JAPANESE OTANI IZM VCON OUTLINE
Potential | Excitement and passion breeds potential.

A surprising amount of strength can be exerted when one is fascinated.
And all the more so in the steel manufacturing industry
which is key to the Japanese economy.
The quality of OTANI is upheld by the positive attitude of our employees.

I believe that working hard for the realization
of smooth operations is the same as facing one's own potential.
The area that I am in charge of, maintenance of the rolling machines, is a 'behind the scenes' job which involves post-manufacture adjustment of settings so that the line is in peak condition for the following day. The quality of our work is directly reflected in subsequent operations, and thus I believe that this is a workplace in which dependability is essential.
Every morning, I receive notice about the status of the previous day's manufacturing line, and when there are no problems and production is completed in a smooth fashion, I feel a great sense of relief and achievement.
The condition of the machines differs from day to day, and so it is hard work to overcome problems whilst being thorough with the basics, but through this process a safer, more efficient setting standard can be found, and thus being able to create new standards on my own is quite interesting. It is not a 'flashy' job, but I feel that my potential is always challenged, and that it is worthwhile.
In addition, I am fulfilling a very privileged role as the youngest member of field management at OTANI, and thus in order for my work performance to give impetus to other young people, I am aiming to work hard and try my best.

With the prospects for female employee advancement
into the factory at OTANI, I am inspired by my own potential.

Manami Takeda
Chief, Rolling Section
Year of Service: 14th; Age: 34.
Hobbies: Cooking.

I am the Administrative Chief for production in the Rolling Section. I don't get to see the actual line very often, but I participate in operations meetings etc., so I have to learn about the work on the shop floor and the terminology for writing thorough reports, and thus the contact I have with the workers on the line is indispensable.
Although it is office work, I am the first female factory chief in the history of OTANI, and so while I feel honored with this position, I also feel the pressure of having to set a good example. However, the fact that OTANI, whose operations focus on the 'manly' task of manufacturing steel, is thinking about making better use of the skills of women in factory operations makes me very happy because a greater potential in women can be realized.
Also, on a personal note, as my husband also works in the Rolling Section (the night-shift however) he is very supportive in my understanding of the factory work, and for that I am very fortunate.
For women working here there are still some areas that are under development, but our bosses recognize the hard work of the women as well as providing an environment in which we can express our opinions, and thus I feel comfortable striving to further my career at OTANI.

It is important to simply 'give it a go'
and not be negative towards anything.
My unit, Product Shipping, carries out everything from setting deadlines for orders to arranging vehicles for the transport of goods, and in effect, is the unit which is in charge of 'OTANI's front door'.
There is a lot of direct customer contact in this job, and since this contact directly translates into images of OTANI and its quality, I have to gain the cooperation of not only OTANI's employees, but also the employees of the transport companies which deliver our goods, in order to provide a high level of service to our customers.
What I find interesting about this job is being able to offer efficient supply plans on a case-by-case basis, through making use of the distinct features and merits of OTANI, as well as through the management of everything from taking the order to making the final delivery. Naturally, trial and error is all part of the job, but with OTANI's ethos of just 'giving it a go', I am able to confront challenges with a positive mindset.
In addition, there are times when the production line is run based on the deadline that I have set, and as I consider the size of that responsibility to be the same as the size of the expectations upon me, I feel that I would like to continue taking on these challenges of responsibility.
